Precinct 4 Senior Adult Program’s August Calendar

Harris County Precinct 4 has released the August calendar of events for the senior adult program, Fun4Seniors.

Resale Shop Hop. Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 9 a.m. Rummage through three of Houston’s premier resale shops. Find something different each and every time you shop, including name brand clothing, purses, bags, household items, and so much more! Lunch will be available for purchase at Phoenicia World Market. Transportation is provided from Copperfield Church, located at 8350 Highway 6 North in Houston.

Sea Center Texas in Lake Jackson. Thursday, Aug. 2 at 8 a.m. Experience Sea Center Texas through its marine aquarium, fish hatchery, and nature center to find out how Texas Parks and Wildlife promotes conservation of marine resources. Feel the marine animals in the touch tank and view the aquariums depicting native Texas habitats, including a salt marsh, jetty, reef, and open Gulf exhibits. The center’s wetland area is part of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. An early lunch is available for purchase at Asiel’s. The Texas Tenors at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston. Saturday, Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. The Texas Tenors treat audiences to a unique blend of country, classical, Broadway and current pop music. Fire Museum of Texas in Beaumont. Thursday, Aug. 9 at 8:30 a.m. The fire museum of Texas is dedicated to preserving fire service history, educating people about fire and life safety, and the contributions of the fire service. Housed in the Beaumont Fire Department’s 1927 Central Fire Station, the two-story, seven-bay station was recognized by the Texas Historical Commission as a historical landmark in 1983. The scene is set when a group of people gathered in a country house cut off by the snow discover, to their horror, that there is a murderer in their midst. Who can it be? One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and the motive are finally revealed. PBS Channel 8 Newsroom Tour. Saturday, Aug. 11 at 9:15 a.m. Join Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Channel 8 Houston Public Media. Visit the studios and radio station where news is broadcasted to the citizens of Houston. An early lunch will be available for purchase at Katz Deli. Transportation is provided from Kingwood Library, located at 4400 Bens View Lane in Kingwood.

St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica. Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 9:15 a.m. On July 11, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI recognized the liturgical and historical significance of Saint Anthony Cathedral, in Beaumont, Texas, by proclaiming it a Minor Basilica.  During this docent guided tour of the facility, you will learn more about the history of the parish as well as enjoy the beautiful art and development of the Basilica. Mystery Lunch Theatre by Murder by Chocolate Mystery Theater. Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 10:20 a.m.Head to the Big Stone Lodge where mystery and mayhem begins! A crime takes place and everyone has a choice. The choice of just staying seated and solving the crime or taking on a role in the mystery play. “Taking on a role” means you might be chosen to take on a starring or minor role and could end up being the murderer or be murdered! It is set in the Cajun Country in 1890, opens prior to the last big hurricane with Priscilla Ghosse wanting to visit the old family antebellum home she has just inherited. Chamber Music Trio at Round Top Festival Institute. Saturday, Aug. 18 at 11:30 a.m. The Chamber Music Trio will perform on the Festival Concert Hall stage. The concert features Chavdar Parashkevov on violin, Louis-Marie Fardet on cello and Viktor Valkov on piano. The trio will perform music by Haydn, Mendelssohn and Shostakovich. Group Volunteer Outreach: Houston Food Bank. Thursday, Aug. 23 at 10:15 a.m. Help feed Houston’s hungry by volunteering at the Houston Food Bank kitchen. Each volunteer is required to wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and no jewelry. Prior to volunteering, lunch will be available for purchase at Phoenicia World Market. Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy. Saturday, Aug. 25 at 8 a.m. Join Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program for the Houston Dressage Society Laborious Day Show, where you will enjoy the elegant performance that showcases the communication between horse and rider. Lunch is available for purchase on your own at Palma de Cera Latin Cuisine. Transportation is provided from CHI St. Luke’s Health - The Vintage Hospital, located at 20171 Chasewood Park Drive in Houston.

The Health Museum. Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 9:30 a.m. Take a larger-than-life walking tour through the human body and learn about how your major organs work. Then, gear up with a lab coat, gloves, and goggles to travel through an experiment station that gets you up close and personal with cellular biology. Freshly cooked and served piping hot! $12 per person.

Throw Kindness Like ConfettiTuesday, Aug. 21 at 11:30 a.m. Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program invites all senior adults ages 50 years of age and better to Champion Forest Baptist Church Jersey Village located at 16518 Jersey Drive in Jersey Village for a catered meal and live, musical entertainment! Join Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program for a celebration of kindness. Ben’s Chuck Wagon is catering glazed baked ham, new potatoes, squash casserole, rolls, dessert and iced tea. $10 per person.

Fun is in Full BloomFriday, Aug. 24 at 11:30 a.m. Precinct 4’s Senior Adult Program invites all senior adults ages 50 years of age and better to Lone Star College – University Park, Energy & Manufacturing Institute (EMI Building), located at 11521 Compaq Center West Drive in Houston, for a catered meal and live, musical entertainment.
